Humanity has begun the process of crossing the mind-machine barrier with devices such as replacement limbs, ears, and eyes, but they are poor facsimiles of the originals, unable to replicate even a tenth of the functionality of the biological parts. And as for mind-assisting coprocessors, computers exist. But computers that can be integrated into wetware? Those are still a long way off.
