Earlier this week, the Pope called out the worldwide media for acting like “terrorists” and fomenting fear and distress in pursuit of the bottom line. He’s entirely correct (my media professor referenced this form of muckracking as “dead blonde of the week”, and that was over a decade ago), but there appears to be little that will happen in response. After all, media is not in the business of providing accurate reporting – it’s in the business of garnering as many eyeballs as possible in order to boost its bottom line.
