A New Take on Planet Formation

There’s a new theory of solar system formation that now believes that everything in a solar system, from the distant gas giants to the rocky inner planets to the star itself, all form at the same time, and using a cold process rather than a hot one. Like many theories of astrophysics, this is just another stepping stone as we refine our understanding of the process by which the universe works, but it’s certainly an interesting step along the way.
